44° Wine Label Has Unexpected 'Boost' from
Barack Obama's Historic Presidential Election Win
The
people at Expression 44° didn't actually think of the tie-in
to the historic 44th presidential election - their customers
did - but they liked the idea!
NAPA,
CA - December 31, 2008 - Whether it was synchronicity,
chance or divine providence, a newly released wine label - Expression
44° - is happy to be a part of a serendipitous connectionto
Barack Obama's historic presidential victory and upcoming inauguration.
Expression
Wine's degree number designation for its Pinot Noir wines is
determined by the latitude of the vineyard source. The company
was in the process of its own inaugural celebration - the release
of its first Oregon wine from the Willamette Valley named Expression
44° - when a handful of clients pointed out an interesting
coincidence: Expression 44° is being released just as the
country prepares for the historic inauguration of the 44th President,
Barrack Obama.
"We were pleasantly surprised when people excitedly started
calling us to buy saying this was the perfect wine to serve
at their inauguration party," said Dick Wollack, co-principal
of Expression Wines along with his partner-famed vineyard developer
and winemaker-Bill Hill. "We weren't focused on the Obama
44 tie-in. We were more focused on another number-- the 90 Score
that Robert Parker had just given us!" But the wine marketing
people at Expression jumped quickly to the task, creating a
special Inaugural price program: "Toast 44 with 44°".
"We wrote everyone on our list about this "Toast 44
with 44°" inaugural promotion (offering our $48 bottle
wine for, of course, $44 and a 12 bottle case for, what else
but $440. That triggered an onslaught of customers ordering
for their upcoming inauguration parties. Orders are coming from
everywhere, but we are also receiving exceptional response from
people in Chicago, Washington DC and high Obama-plurality states,
who have heard about us from friends and have gone to our website,
www.expressionwine.com,"
said Wollack.
Wollack
then added..."We won't be caught by surprise next time
around; we already have some vineyards at the 45th parallel,
when the next president gets inaugurated in 4 or 8 years. We'll
be ready!"
